Snorkeling West Maui

What a beautiful Saturday! I took a friend/client on a snorkel excursion. From Kaanapali we beach loaded aboard Teralani 2 and set off on our morning snorkel cruise. It was such a crystal clear morning…the water like glass. I’ve gone snorkeling many times and been to almost every snorkel spot that excursions normally go…I’ve always enjoyed getting into the water. As usual we motored north towards Kapalua and in just a short journey we entered into a cove that I had never snorkeled before. What an amazing surprise in store for me, the “local girl”. We anchored at Namalu Bay also known by many as the “Cliff House” located just north of Kapalua Bay and less frequented by the public. The surrounding lava formed bluffs are amazing! We could not wait to enter the water and see what was lurking below. Wow, what a site, the coral was beautiful to see! The Green Sea Turtles, the Hawaiian “Honu”, was spotted immediately. There was an abundance of beautiful tropical fish of all sorts. This spot made my day!
Our second snorkel site was Honolua Bay, part of the Mokuleia Marine Life Conservation District. As always it is such a beautiful snorkel spot, filled with amazing wonder beneath the water.

Our day on the ocean with Teralani catamaran and the wonderful crew was spectacular! Thank you Teralani!

Teralani 2 and Teralani 3 are the newest and largest sailing catamarans in Kaanapali. Each boat was designed and built for the comfort and safety. Both vessels are 65’ x 35’ and can easily accommodate 125 passengers, but the maximum they ever take is 49. Teralani 2 and Teralani 3 each have two restrooms, fresh water showers, outside and inside seating with tables and a covered salon and bar. Both custom built catamarans are U.S. Coast Guard certified and maintained to the highest standards.

Slated to open in late January of this year, the hip, casual 'Izakaya-style' eatery, "Monstera", will feature Japanese pub food, sushi and sake. The offering from owners Norio Yamamoto and Wes Monty will boast a menu built upon fresh local ingredients and will blend traditional Japanse cuisine with Hawaiian hospitality. Yamamoto is a successful sushi chef with more than two decades of experience with discriminating employers such as Ritz-Carlton, Mandarin Oriental and The Fairmont Orchid.

"Monstera" is the second new eatery scheduled to open in January, along with "Juice 101", a casual food, juice and smoothie bar. These additions follow the opening of "The Great 4-D Movie Ride," Hawaii's first and only 4-D theater, which began operation in late November.

We began our excursion with an off-road ride deep into the rugged and beautiful lands. Once there, we were able to experience eight amazing zip lines that allowed us to soar high above plunging cliffs and lush valleys. This was a piece of wild Hawaii and was just gorgeous! With a stop at a 1,000-foot overlook, it provided us vistas of breath-taking beauty and views of the islands as you have never seen before!

On Saturday, July 4th, I was able to revisit one of Kauai's most popular activities - an ATV adventure! What a great way to celebrate the holiday weekend! Located near sunny Poipu, Kauai ATV offers a fantastic Waterfall ATV tour. This tour allowed us to take in breathtaking scenery, drive through the only navigable tunnel on the island, and enjoy a refreshing dip in a mountain pool at the base of a waterfall. Also, Kauai ATV offers a variety of vehicles to fit everyone's needs; whether it's a single-person ATV, two-person Mud Bug or 4-person Ohana Bug. Our guides were friendly and knowledgeable and made sure we all had a wonderful experience!

Ko'a Kea Hotel & Resort Grand Re-Opening!

The Ko’a Kea Hotel & Resort, formerly the Po‘ipu Beach Hotel, is one of the oldest hotels on the island of Kauai. On April 14, 2009 the resort re-opened after having undergone a complete renovation when damage from Hurricane Iniki forced its closure in 1992. The hotel has reportedly returned to its “original Hawaiiana-style” character while upgrading and modernizing its amenities.

Peter Vincent Architects, part of the design team, said that there will be several new elements to the boutique hotel including a spa, pool, beach bar, updated guestrooms and the addition of suites.

Award-winning Chef Peter Merriman recently announced his concept for his newest restaurant, Merriman's Kauai, located in Poipu's new retail shopping center, Kukuiula Village. Scheduled to open in late August of this year, this will be Chef Merriman's first restaurant on the island of Kauai to offer Hawaii Regional Cuisine. What a wonderful tour! We had the honor to experience this Zipline tour on the Big Island firsthand! This tour consists of 8 ziplines, 2 bridges, 3 waterfalls and a wonderful rest stop they call the “Mac Nut Hut” that overlooks this amazing 32’ waterfall. Just beautiful! They provided locally prepared foods to include a homemade Granola energy bar and locally made fruit bread (banana or pineapple), or Lilikoi butter (passion fruit) and crackers. The Lilikoi butter was really delicious! This was served with locally grown and harvested organic fruits, fresh cracked macadamia nuts and assorted beverages. It was a great resting stop in the middle of this magnificent trip!

The Shops at Mauna Lani announces launch of free local music concert series ‘First Fridays at The Shops’ to showcase Big Island talent, eclectic sounds

Beginning on Friday, April 3, the shopping complex will host free music performances at its outdoor stage on the first Friday evening of every month.

The series will feature a diverse array of local sounds, from contemporary Hawaiian to jazz. The April concert debut will feature a two-hour set from Kohala’s own award-winning artists Nino Kaai and Kahua beginning at 6 p.m. Popular jazz cat Bill Noble will take the stage in June.
